Project Methodology: search and archiving process
The outline below offers a glimpse into the process used to acquire and properly archive the videos
Identify images
- Key word search and copy desired URL’s into Excel (can use plugin such as Multi Links Plus to capture many links at once)
- Repeat with next key word, then check for duplicate URL’s (use Excel Conditional Formatting, Highlight Cell Rules, Duplicates)
- Repeat for full set of keyword search
Add information into metadata categories as desired
- Get URL for thumbnail
- Youtube: Paste video id into following link, "https://i.ytimg.com/vi/VIDEOIDHERE/hqdefault.jpg"
- Vimeo: Use this website and Vimeo ID - http://video.depone.eu/
Download backup copy of videos using Video Download helper
- Save files with Firefox add-on or extension- a naming protocol should match unique identifications
First Five letters of Work of Art’s Title, no spaces: (Pour, Weare, WaveU)
Video ID Number: (001, 002, 003)
Video Downloaders initials: (AP)

Upload video into Scalar- using html link- using the following metadata categories
- dcterms:title, dcterms:contributor, dcterms:creator, dcterms:rights, dcterms:type, iptc:ImageType, dcterms:source, dcterms:identifier, art:url, art:thumbnail, dcterms:alternative, iptc:DigitalCreationDate, art:metadataCreationDate, art:description, dcterms:date, dcterms:temporal, iptc:City, dcterms:format
Upload to Critical Commons for Instagram and for stable URL
- Instagram will not embed into Scalar because Instagram requires an account to view any images. To work around this problem, Instagram videos were downloaded and uploaded to Critical Commons, and published with a comment so they would have an active URL
