Groups in Hypothes.is

Hypothes.is annotations are initially “Public” meaning anyone logging into Hypothes.is and on the webpage can see and engage with the annotations. However, in Scalar this public-scope is limited if the Scalar book is not shared publically, thus allowing only authors and reviewers to see and post comments.

You can also create a “Group” in Hypothes.is, which allows only certain members to view the comments.

This group function may be beneficial for:
  1. Creating peer review groups
  2. Asking authors to offer metacommentary on their methods
  3. Explaining page revisions
  4. Small-scale or individual feedback on pages with multiple authors
Our group used both of these methods successfully to give reader feedback about both content and design
