Digital Writing

Preparation

Fear and Paralysis. That’s what immediately sets in when students learn they will be writing a digital book for a class project. And reading the prompt, particularly an open-ended one, is not reassuring. Nor is showing them examples of digital books that other students have done. They are impressed with these fine looking finished products, but the question that circles their brains is: “How am I ever going to do that?” Readings such as “Beyond Words: The Craftsmanship of Digital Products” might help students understand the philosophy of digital writing, but the question remains: “How am I ever going to do that?” Even after they review the Scalar2 Tutorial, their nervousness if palpable.
