A miter is a liturgical headpiece worn by a bishop or an abbot during church ceremonies. This miter is highly decorative head with lappets that trail along the body of the person wearing it. The head of the miter uses intricate designs such as eight-pointed stars, six-petalled rosettes, and purple and green silk circles. The miter's ornament suggests expensive gems. The eight-pointed stars suggest an astrological and otherworldly significance, perhaps alluding to heaven. If an abbot wears this miter on his head, the imitation jewels suggest his elite status, and the stars suggest his connection to the heavens.
The lappets trail down the body of the abbot. Their design includes small animals designed in an orphery style.

It is connected to Byzantine styles and is similar to the style on the lappets of the miter from the Benedictine Monastery of St. Petermedia/Screen Shot 2022-11-16 at 8.17.06 AM.pngplain2022-11-16T05:18:19-08:00
