Cragmor Manor
With the discovery of an antibiotic that cured tuberculosis, Cragmor’s population began to decline rapidly. In 1950, there were only 35 remaining patients. In November 1952, Cragmor had a contract to begin caring for Navajo patients. This made Cragmor thrive once again! So, in March 1958, construction plans were approved for a nursing home which was to be called Cragmor Manor. With a $500,000 price tag, it housed 31 new residents and consisted of 16 furnished apartments. The Manor didn't last very long. Even though it was a separate business from Cragmor, it shut down alongside it; as the last of its senior citizens left in April 1962.
Home
The building called “Home” at Cragmor was the original site of Cragmor in the early 1900’s. When the main building was built in 1914, the “Home” building became a place for administration as well as patients and nurses. Eventually, it was given an addition as well, when 12 units were added to house additional patients.
Nurses Home
In Fall of 1929, the Nurses Home was completed. This allowed the nurses to move from the “Home” into their own building. The nurses were given much more space and were no longer cramped inside the “Home” along with the administration.
