Tourist Attractions
Tokyo is a popular place for tourism. But where do tourists (and locals) visit and do in Tokyo?
There is a Disneyland1! This makes Tokyo a family and kid friendly city. Having a Disneyland shows that Tokyo wants to have children and families visiting. It also shows that it is a safe city for children and there are fun activities to do. Disneyland is known to have a clean reputation so having one in Tokyo shows that Tokyo is a safe and clean city. Here is a map of the Disneyland2which shows what Tokyo Disneyland has to offer. It was opened in 1983 and was the first Disney theme park park outside of the U.S. The themed lands includes World Bazaar, Tomorrowland, Toontown, Fantasyland, Critter Country, Westernland, and Adventureland. It is very easy to get to Disneyland Tokyo since it is only a five minute walk from the JR Maihama Station3. Disneyland is an American themed park and by having one in Tokyo shows that Tokyo has a lot of western influence. Showing the western influence could attract westerners to visit Tokyo and go to Disneyland.
The Tokyo Tower4 is one of the most famous landmarks in Tokyo. It is both a tourist attraction and telecommunications hub. This landmark was a tribute to Japan's economic growth and successful industrialization5. This tower demonstrates to visitors that Tokyo has expanded and industrialized. It shows the success Tokyo has experienced and how well developed they are. With that in mind, Tokyo attracts those who are educated and interested in science and technology since Tokyo is known for those things.
The Meiji Shrine6 (or Meiji Jingu) is another popular tourist attraction. It was dedicated to Emperor Meiji. It is close to the Harajuku station so people can easily get to and from the Meiji Shrine. This Shrine tells some of Japan's history and religion. It was completed in 1920 but destroyed during World War II but rebuild afterwards. It shows how influential Emperor Meiji was to modern Japan and how well Japan/Tokyo rebuilds itself after destruction. The shrine offers activities and practices of Shintoism which represents the popular culture and religion in Tokyo7. Tokyo attracts visitors to come to the Meiji Shrine in hopes of them learning about their religion, culture, and history.
All of these tourist attractions help demonstrate the culture of Tokyo. It portrays Tokyo as a safe and advanced city with an interesting history and culture. It hopes to attract a diverse group which includes children/families, the educated, and westerners.
