The International Prester John Project: How A Global Legend Was Created Across Six Centuries

Andrea da Barberino

Born in Barberino val d'Elsa and raised partially in Florence, Andrea da Barberino (1370-1431) was an Italian composer of numerous chivalric romances. He began his career translating and expanding on French romances but eventually created narratives of his own invention, often in the epic genre.

His Guerino il Meschino stretched the dubious historicity of Mandeville's Travels into an even more fantastical, romantic affair.
