Lab Assignment 4
As you're shooting, take notes of issues you encounter. Or, if struggling to produce a specific style of shot or effect with your camera, make a note of it and we'll get it sorted out in class.
1. Check out a Canon 80D and 85mm lens from the Media Lab.
2. Select your frame rate (24fps or 30fps).
3. Set your shutter speed to 2x the frame rate (1/48 or 1/60 – or closest shutter speed).
4. Set your ISO to 160, 320, 640, 800.
5. Make sure that you’re shooting in MOV (not MP4) and ALL-I not IPB.
5. Choose an object or signage or some sort of an exterior space and practice shooting the following types of camera movements (record each camera movement for 5-10 seconds each, and make sure to move your camera as slowly and fluidly as possible):
- pan
- tilt
- dolly in / dolly out
6. Practice wracking focus.
7. Practice a tracking shot by following your partner or a friend and trying to keep focus.
8. Set up an interview shot of your partner or friend with a shallow depth of field and large depth of field. Record for 5-10 seconds.
9. Copy all of your different shots onto an external hard drive and bring it to class. We will review them together, and discuss any issues that you might be encountering.
