The community would support one another through Mutualista societies. These were clubs that would plan community events and give food, money, or shelter to those in need. They would hold dances, church events, and celebrate Mexican holidays together. Having this support helped Mexican and Mexican American families make a home in a place that was not always welcoming to them.
