By the 'wild web' we mean the Internet indexed by Google that a user would experience were they to begin a search for a given term at Google's search website. We use the term to distinguish this part of the web from the 'scholarly web' which is comprised of proprietary databases used by academics to find peer-reviewed and associated literature.
