COFFEE CULTURE

Coffee, primarily just a hot drink brewed from roasted coffee beans has now emerged to be a concept with the blooming coffee culture. Coffee culture or café culture is defined to be a lifestyle which is characterized by regular socializing in cafés. It seems to be evolving from mere food joints to a social setting extended beyond the purpose of personal meetings.
The origin of café culture is dated back to 14th century in Europe. It is basically a western practice which has taken into Indian culture in recent years. Ours is a country which has moved from chai to latte. Many Indian cities have adopted café culture as a lifestyle due to the increasing coffee chains, making India the 6th largest coffee producer in the world. These coffee houses serve as centers of social interaction where social members congregate, talk, write, read, be entertained or simply even pass time. It also serves as an informal club for its regular members.

QUALITY OF LIFE

From the second half of 20th century, many countries are dealing with the term quality of life. It has taken an important place in today’s world and is being incorporated into various speeches and strategies. The term quality of life is an indicator of wealth, employment, environment, physical, mental health, education, recreation, leisure time and social belonging. It assesses the general well-being of individuals and societies.

WHO (World Health Organization) has defined quality of life as, “An individual’s perceptions of their position of life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standard and concerns”.  This definition manifests the assumption that quality of life refers to a subjective evaluation that is embedded in a cultural, social and environmental context.
