“Asphyxiated: Exposing Gordon Plaza” captures the people and scenery of the upper ninth ward New Orleans neighborhood development Gordon Plaza, which is located on the site of a former toxic waste dump. This film documents the very human experience of residents, activists and cultural workers who gathered in September 2018 for a Healing Circle at Congo Square to honor the lives of those harmed by environmental causes, particularly loved ones who passed away from diseases caused by the carcinogens on-site in Gordon Plaza. With support from The People’s Assembly, the residents are demanding a fully funded relocation for the neighborhood’s 50+ remaining families who purchased the homes which were marketed specifically to African Americans and built with federal funds.
