The Hancock Foundation
The Hancock Foundation was established at USC by G. Allan Hancock to further oceanographic research studies. The department of Special Collections in the USC Libraries is the repository for the records of the activities of the Foundation, which include the marine biological research trips undertaken by scientists affiliated with the Foundation; the Foundation's library, which was absorbed into the broader USC Libraries in the 1980s; and the Hancock Museum, which consists of 4 rooms from the original Hancock family mansion that were relocated to USC and placed in the Hancock Foundation building, dedicated in 1941.
