Slicing the Public Pie: A primer on data representations & issues surrounding their use @HealthCanada

Qs - Perception

The following are reflective questions posed that pertain to perception of data and their representation.

What are your goals with your data?

What is the intent behind a representation of the data?

Will data be grouped in a non-binary fashion?

Which sense would you like the data to be represented in (i.e. most effective)?

How is/can wisdom be extrapolated from any given data representation?

What boundaries are you imposing on specific sounds?

How will users interact with the palette of sounds?

How will sounds be played?  Linearly?  Simultaneously?  Continuously or intermittent?

Will sounds be linked to a visualization?

What are the segments of the data?

Will segments be analyzed in an isolated, independent manner or comparatively?

How many axes of comparison will there be?

Is the data representation rich enough to convey all the desired features/segments?

Are there multiple narratives inherent to a given data representation?
