Workshop Manuals
These materials reflect the efforts of a spring 1998 collaboration between SAPAC and the U-M Athletics department. Designed by SAPAC and Athletic staff (including legendary football figure Greg Harden), the documents seen here are a guide for facilitators leading a SAPAC training especially designed for athletes. Both the title (the “Violence Against Women Training”) and content of this training spoke to a [highly gendered/gender-limited? not happy with any of this phrasing] understanding of sexual assault and intimate partner violence. Included in the training were a discussion of laws related to sexual assault and intimate partner violence, suggestions for bystander intervention, and case studies about “Dating Violence” and “Sexual Assault” in which participants were read a scenario and asked about how they would react. The training also included a video, which we are not able to include here. Throughout the training, participants are asked to think of their roles, as friends or peers, in enabling a culture of sexual assault. There is also a limited portion of the training dedicated to how to support a friend who has experienced sexual assault.
Content notification: the scenarios written on pages [x] include graphic descriptions of sexual assault. To view only the pages that do not, go [here--scalar!!?]
