Sexual Assault Prevention at the University of Michigan

Sexual Assault Prevention at the University of Michigan

This is an online archive of materials representative of sexual assault prevention campaigns at the University of Michigan during the 1990s. The materials on this site utilize collections at the Bentley Historical Library archives and features promotional and educational materials by the University of Michigan’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC).

This archive provides different perspectives and insights into SAPAC’s sexual assault prevention campaigns. For example, a section of this archive features volunteer training manuals, which illustrate how student volunteers were trained to speak to their peers about sexual assault prevention. Another set of materials include student athlete evaluations following a series of SAPAC workshops, which offer insight into student athlete perceptions about SAPAC educational initiatives. Posters and other pedagogical ephemera provide a general overview of the communication strategies SAPAC used to educate students and raise awareness about their program. Through these materials, it is possible to examine how SAPAC’s various efforts expanded the discourse of sexual assault prevention at the University of Michigan and how this threat impacted not only women, but the entire student body, including people of color and non-heteronormative groups in the Ann Arbor area.

To interact with this archive, follow the path below by selecting “Begin with SAPAC Posters.” From there, this archive will guide you through select documents from the Bentley SAPAC collection, which are loosely organized based on the physical folder location of the materials.
