Pueblo Football Rivalry: The Pueblo Football Bell Games

CHANGES THROUGH TIME

The Bell and Stadium have undergone several changes through time. As the bell is rung it is quite common for it to break loose off of its frame. As the bell is painted over, year after year it also needs to undergo maintenance which is usually up to the winning high school to do.
The football stadium itself has undergone several changes too. In the 1980s it was renovated to seat more fans adding additional bleachers, stands and handicap accessible areas. The stadium was beginning to outgrow the game as the stadium was being used for city track meets, soccer, and band practices.
Another change over time was the mascots. The mascots have always been the Centennial Bulldog and Central Wildcat but their style and looks have changed quite a bit. Centennial used to have a mascot costume that was of a bulldog wearing a letterman jacket but it is now a full dog outfit.

The rivalry between these two schools represents something valuable not only to the State of Colorado, but all of High School Football. When future scholars research into classic high school football games, maybe they'll learn about Centrals six straight Bell victories. A interesting fact to know is that in the year 2000, the Bulldogs and the Wildcats would battle in the 100th Bell Game (El Pueblo Museum, Jose Ortega). The Community of Pueblo has something special in their public education system that they can be proud of. Looking forward, the town should do everything in its power to keep the Bell game battling.
