The International Prester John Project: How A Global Legend Was Created Across Six Centuries

Albrecht von Scharfenberg

Born in Bavaria in the first third of the thirteenth century, Albrecht von Scharfenberg was a romance writer most famous for composing a prequel to Wolfram von Eschenbach's popular German romance, Parzival. Like Wolfram's text, Albrecht's Der jüngere Titurel extends the lore surrounding Prester John into the literary realm by connecting the mythical king to Arthurian legend. Some manuscripts of the text also contain German translations of the Letter of Prester John.
