Three Ways. From Novice to Intermediate to Advanced

The ACTFL Performance Descriptors for Language Learners are designed to describe language performance that is the result of explicit instruction in an instructional setting.  They serve our purposes today because they  will form a roadmap for our teaching and and our students' learning. They will also assist us in creating  performance tasks targeted to the appropriate performance range, whether that be novice, intermediate or advanced, and yet still succeed in challenging learners to use strategies from the next higher range. While we could devise song-based tasks for all three performance descriptors - interpretive, interpersonal and presentational - our approach today will focus primarily on building interpretive abilities.
