"Fourth Muscular Table," in Bernhard Siegfried Albinus, Tables of the Skeleton and Muscles of the Human Body Translated from the Latin (London, 1749)

The engravings in Albinus' work portray the human body in a highly aestheticized manner. The plates draw on artistic conventions of the time, including the portrayal of the human body according to classical and Renaissance principles. The images were of interest to both physicians and artists. The engraving on display includes an animated human skeleton posed in front of a famous rhinoceros named "Clara," which had been displayed across Europe. (BM)
