Petroleum, Refineries, and the Future

Danger Posed by Spills on Environment Degradation

â€‹Environmental degradation is a big issue, and therefore, oil companies and their refineries must learn about the risks their products hold to the environment, especially with many refineries sitting so close to the coastlines and other environmental areas. Steve Christ, a graduate of Towson University and current expert in the housing market, brings forward the aspect of the true cost of oil and gas products in his article, “Oil Price Fantasy: The True Cost of Crude.” Christ’s article had me asking the question: how important is the relationship between petroleum and society? Is it important enough to risk the potential destruction of the land on which we live? We only have one earth on which we live. A disaster could spell out big trouble for the environment if an oil or wastewater spill were to occur. Both of these types of spills can have major detrimental effects on the environment, which is why prevention is very important.
