Mitigation Techniques

Although the issue of corrosion is turning out to be more and more serious and disadvantageous, there are few notable mitigation techniques which can be implemented to combat the effects of corrosion, which are also discussed in the same article "6.8 Corrosion in Production Operations”.

First effective mitigation technique is Materials Selection. The processes of selecting the materials while engineering the production operation structures is important because it determines things like strength level. Another mitigation technique is using coatings and surfacings in production equipment to decrease or even completely stop the process of corrosion. The different types of coatings which can be used are metallic coatings, inorganic coatings and organic coatings. Finally, Inhibition is another power technique which can be used to mitigate the corrosion in production operation. Inhibition is phenomenon of using a substance called inhibitor, which helps in slowing or stopping a chemical reaction. The point is to use inhibitor in such an amount that it slows or stops the corrosion reaction which occurs to create corrosion in the refinery operations ("6.8 Corrosion in Production Operations").
