Pittston Coal Miners' Memorial
Date Erected: June 3, 1979
Location: North Main St. & Kennedy Blvd., Pittston, PA
Description:
The Pittston memorial depicts a coal miner with his lunch pail, mining hat, and stoic facial expression. The dedication focuses on the coal miners' "unselfish" labor in order to create "a better future for generations to follow." In all capital letters and larger font is the inscription "WE OWE HIM MUCH," once again reiterating the contribution of the coal miner to the Pittston area. At the other end of the plot sits a large five ton piece of coal. Thus, allowing the onlooker to connect the miner with his product of labor, and consequently, illustrating the difficulties of mining.
