Memory in Transition

Oral history interviews

I recorded a total of 21 interview with current and past workers of VMZ. Some participants requested that their interviews were not used after the fact, and so they are not included in the project. Other interviews I have chosen to exclude from publication because of the possible harm that could occur to the participants who currently work at VMZ. The political and work climates surrounding the plant were delicate and strained at the time I was doing this project in May-July 2015.

To be fair to all participants, the interviews have been made anonymous by removing personally-identifying information, including: name, date of birth, and place of birth. The editing out of this information will appear as a "silence" in the audio versions. In the transcripts, it will appear in brackets, indicating the type of information removed. For example, [name of the interviewee], [date of birth].

For a select seven interviews, the audio versions are accompanied by Bulgarian-language transcripts and their English-language translations. Transcription and translation was done by me.
