Mary and Borders

Introduction

This online exhibit was created by two sections of the course "Latina/Latino Religious Experiences" (REL 322) at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio and St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. The course focuses on exploration of the diversity of Latino/Latina religious experiences and communities in North America, with an emphasis on Roman Catholic experiences. The course is crosslisted among the Departments of Religious Studies, Theology, Global Languages and Cultures and the Latinx and Latin American Studies Minor. Sections met in Spring 2020 and were among the thousands of courses to be moved online because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Early in Spring 2020 students engaged with and responded to images from the Marian Library's collection on the topic of Mary and border spaces, both physical and conceptual. Working in groups, students used those images as the basis for creating the content in this exhibit which includes reflective narratives, videos, images, games, interactive prayers, and multimedia.
