League of Women Voters of Lafayette

National

The national League of LWV was founded in 1920, just six months shy of the ratification of the 19th amendment. The League's influence was enormous, as they gathered support for establishing the United Nations, founded an education fund to encourage the teaching of civics and governmental issues, and acted as a major driver for ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). They also participated in pushing for voter reform, supporting such bills as the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and the Help American Vote Act (HAVA). In February of 2020, LWV celebrated its 100th anniversary.
