League of Women Voters of Lafayette

Local

The Lafayette League of LWV was founded in 1945 by nine Lafayette women at the home of Joyce Rudsill Long. Within only half a year, membership grew to over 100. Such early issues they stressed included providing assistance for refugees in Europe, administering school surveys, and inquiring about civil service regulations to state senators. The members of LWV-Lafayette believe in voting rights for all and opposed measures of discrimination. The Lafayette League remains strong today, as they continue to promote voter registration and information to help the public stay informed.
