This Scalar site primarily serves as a teaching companion for my future book, The Holy Tear of Christ: Visual and Performance Culture at the Benedictine Abbey of La Trinité, Vendôme, ca. 1150-1550. Each chapter page offers a chapter summary, a visualization (map, timeline, etc.) of each chapter’s main theme, and a pathway into the primary sources and documents on which the chapter is based. Each document page presents the primary sources along with translations, commentary, and exercises for engaging with the materials.
