Quena de Barro
The quena is a wind instrument originated in the Andes region of Peru in pre-Columbian times in the Nazca and Mochica cultures. Over time, the quena spread out to other regions of the Andes, like Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina. The quena is originally made from hollowed-out animal bones or from sugar cane, although there is some proof that the quena could also have been made from clay and condor bones. The quena is tuned to the major keys like the key of G and F and like other instruments belongs to a family of similar wind instruments, the quenilla and the quenacho. The quena can be used either as part of an ensemble or as a solo instrument playing both rhythm and melody.
