Interface - Realities behind the screen

Understood as providing and simplifying access to communication and information the interface is masking its eminent power to deny access at the same time creating an even stronger exclusiveness due to its components like the design and chosen language - human or code. #communication

Concepts like design and transparency might not seem obvious choices one might not directly refer to a technical structure produced by code but I think can be related to thinking of the interface as a socially constructed technical surface targeting the user in a certain way. Design and transparency of the interface can show as well as hide and at the same time give us an interesting point of analysis. Implications and expectations of the programmer or better to think of the owner of the platform are transcribed into the design of the interface.

This can play an important role in the access to a website, therefore, discrimination gives a highly interesting perspective to the relationship between the interface and the user as well as in contrast the programmer and designer. Considering that by the design of the platform and the chosen languages provided for user social minorities can be easily discriminated by ignoring the need for a translation of the page. Access is hereby not denied to the interface but through the interface to the content. #perception

So, what if you are not the target group? Apps and Websites important to you won’t be accessible on a hidden level. Just look at the interface of your iPhone and try the voice command. You do not have to be Chinese, Hungarian or Afrikaans to feel a linguistic discrimination, even Scottish people seem not to be very well liked by it.
