Making a conversation on climate change in an everyday encounter at an international airport is a challenging thing. It is hard to get someone to talk about that, if you ever get the chance. But after the first few sentences you often reach a point where you have to fight for your position of making use of public aviation to get from one end of the world to another. Even though most people are not aware of the harm they do to the planet, many acknowledge that there is kind of a discrepancy in traveling by plane and leading a sustainable and environmentally friendly life-style.
Therefore I started years ago to only imagine potential conversations with people I see at airports. The best one I had a while ago was with a 12-year old, who explained to me that his parents didn’t allow him to go on the Internet. So he needed to take a plain to show his grandpa his newest achievements of star wars franchise. This was both the silliest and the most understandable apology I heard in a long time.
But today nobody wanted to talk to me. There was a couple on their honeymoon who had different things in mind than defending their desirable yet destructive love-trip, a group of guys looking like their only purpose in life is working out and yelling at random people before laughing at their own glaring simplemindedness. It is not fair, but trying to change anything in the perception of this kind people is simply a waste of time.
