Hastings Ismay

Major-General Sir Hastings Ismay, K.C.B., D.S.O. (1887-1965), later promoted to General Hastings Lionel Ismay, 1st Baron Ismay, KG, GCB, CH, DSO, PC, DL ("Hastings Ismay, 1st Baron Ismay," Wikipedia), worked as Winston Churchill's military assistant when de Gaulle writes to him on December 29, 1941.  Ismay would later go on to be the Secretary General of NATO (1952-1957).
