School lunch

School lunch can mean
  • the midday meal eaten at (usually served by) any school
    • Even in this general sense, it is usually taken to mean elementary, middle, and high schools, and is not often used when referring to post-secondary education.
but is often specifically referring to
  • the government-subsidized lunch (and breakfast) program in the vast majority of American elementary, middle, and high schools both public and private
Most focus has been on elementary schools in particular. A school lunch program operating independently or through the national program may source traditionally, locally, or from the school's garden (see C-B-G School Greenhouse, for example)
