“Toponymy of Taste: Czechoslovak Toponymy of Good Food and Drink”

This small, humorous book about the origins of culinary traditions made its way from Prague to Austin with the help of Svatava Jakobson, a lecturer in Czech language and literature in the Slavic Languages Department at the University of Texas in the early 1970s.  According to CulturalEquity.org:

Jakobson officially retired from teaching in 1978 but remained active as a mentor, friend, and inspiration to those in her Austin community. In 1993, she was awarded the Texas Czech Heritage Award for her contributions to the preservation of Czech heritage and community in Texas. She died in 2000. Before her death, she donated over 3000 books, tapes, recordings and Czech newspapers to the University of Texas library.

Like the Henry R. Maresh papers, this document has important connections to Texas and specifically the University of Texas at Austin.
