Dr. King visited the West Coast frequently, using Second Baptist Church as his home base. On May 16, 1965 he spoke at Wrigley Field (in Los Angeles) at the Freedom Rally. The rally brought over 40,000 people and a host of civil rights activists, including Sammy Davis Jr., Ralph Abernathy and Hollywood celebrities, to support the movement in Birmingham.
