KTYM Gospel radio disc jockey, Los Angeles, 1960
Vermya Phillips and her husband, John, were co-announcers on the gospel radio station KTYM. They were among the first gospel radio announcers, playing Black gospel and religious music. Black radio stations shaped musical tastes and contributed to the empowerment of the civil rights movement.
