Urban Planning

Apart of our curriculum was to learn about urban planning. Our camp is located in South L.A., an area that is going through a lot of changes, specifically gentrification. It is important that the students develop a consciousness on how decisions are made to change a neighborhood so that they understand that they can have some impact on how they want their neighborhood to stay or change. The students were asked to draw a picture of their neighborhood now including their house, and their favorite places throughout their neighborhood. They were also asked  if they ever wanted to add anything new to their neighborhood what would it be and to draw this with an explanation for what they would add.
