California State University Japanese American Digitization Project: An Exhibit

Introduction

Before the War
This exhibit of the CSU Japanese American Digitization Project (CSUJAD) presents a documentary narrative of Japanese nationals in America (Issei) and their American-born children (Nisei) before, during, and after World War II.  The textual and photographic materials are selected from digitized documents residing in the CSUJAD Database (CSU Dominguez Hills Department of Special Collections and Archives) and the Japanese American Archival Collection ImageBase (Sacramento State Department of Special Collections and University Archives). Through the generous support of the national Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Park Service, Japanese American archives from fifteen CSU campuses will continue to be added to the CSUJAD Database through 2018. This exhibit offers researchers, teachers, and students a glimpse into the unjust incarceration affecting approximately 120,000 Japanese Americans from 1942-1945.
