Bringing the Holy Land Home: The Crusades, Chertsey Abbey, and the Reconstruction of a Medieval Masterpiece

When was it made?

It was made some time between 1163 and 1174. King Amalric ruled Jerusalem during this time period, and therefore, it’s most likely made during this time. It’s important to also note that the Crusaders had just defeated the Muslims in 1099 after the First Crusade. Amalric is the eighth king to rule the newly created Chrsitian kingdom of Jerusalem.
