Where did the Seal of Amalric go?

By Omar Afifi '24

It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly where this seal ended up. However, we know that the seal traveled with official documents inside and outside the borders of the kingdom. However, the dies that were used to make the seal remained with the ruler at all times to prevent the illegal making of the seal. Therefore, the seal could be on any of the documents that were used at the time, while the dies itself were most likely destroyed over time. The recipients of this seal were most likely high-ranking officials within the kingdom. Nevertheless, Dumbarton Oaks has King Amalric’s seal among other seals and coins of the time period and region.
