"2012" - Overview



Created as the mother of all disaster movies, the unforgivable 2012 spends nearly two hours of hitting down on restless cataclysmic events that continuously shake earth and its inhabitants down to the core – literally. Based on the ancient Mayan myth that December 2012 would be the end of the world (CNN)– the movie takes this legend and gives it life. It is a prime example of themes of eco horror, of when the earth is fighting back, and with it there were similarly many other featured and widely known modern day films created with it: The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day, Godzilla just to name a dew. The story line of 2012 looks at the vengeful nature earth takes on mankind, causing havoc not in one nation but every. 2012 totaled well over 750 million USD in the box office with a production cost less than 200 million(The Numbers) it was a top hit at the time and recently received renewed interest during Covid where it bean became the second most popular film to be rewatched.
