Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

As well as Geo Storm directed by Dean Devlin, a movie which shows large catastrophic events, occurring in specific areas of the world which causes governments to create a network of satellites to control the worlds weather. Yet, when the system that’s meant to protect the worlds people starts attacking them it is now a race to uncover the problem before a geostorm wipes the entire planet. In a movie such as this we can see a similar theme control and even a bit of class separation. In Geo Storm class control and class separation is shown by it’s the world’s leaders and government who have taken over of the worlds weather and well ultimately the attacks of disastrous weather on earth are done by a world leader. A further idea that can also be thought of all though not introduced in the movie is that in such as case like Geo-Strom the control of the weather by govern could greatly influence class and the separation of nations. Especially when the government can control weather which has an influence from everything such as crops, to trade, to the strength of an economy – such a device can be easily used as a weapon instead of a solution in the wrong hands.
