During our 8 week pre-departure MACS 364 course, I focused on the brand Chiquita. Chiquita is a well known company for producing bananas. Their other products include pineapples, Chiquita fruit chips, Chiquita fruit bits and salads. The company was founded in 1870 by Captain Lorenzo Dow Baker. Their corporate office is now based out of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Over the course of our class, I researched the brand thoroughly, looking mostly at the sustainability practices that the company has in place. This video is an overview of how the bananas are produced, from the time they are first planted to when they are shipped out to stores. It also talks about their commitment to lessening their impact on the environment and how they are taking strives to be sustainable.
