Biography: Rev. Daniel J. Murphy, originally from Sligo in Ireland, was an Irish speaker and traditional music enthusiast. While in the Philadelphia area in the early 1900s, he collected roughly 1200 sean-nós songs in Irish in the Philadelphia and anthracite regions of Pennsylvania with his collaborator J. J. Lyon of Galway, Ireland. His archives are housed in the National University of Ireland, Galway and are as of this writing uncatalogued.
