What's New in Learning Spaces?

By Rebecca Gould, Kansas State University

What’s new in learning spaces? In October, some of us attended A Case for Change: The New Classroom Paradigm sponsored by the Scott Rice Office Works. Presenters discussed trends in learning environments, skills for 2030 and showed innovative spaces. Skills needed in 2030 include social intelligence, novel and adaptive thinking, virtual collaborator, computational thinking, new media literacy and many more. How many of these meld with the facilities we are providing students today and planning for the future?

Attendees toured the The Blue Valley Center for Advanced Professional Studies in Kansas City and virtually toured the SCALE-UP project at North Carolina State University.

Both align with expectations for future learning spaces.

Need help with planning? Visit the The Learning Space Toolkit.

Do you have interesting spaces to show off? We invite readers to send short articles with pictures of their innovative learning spaces. Let’s learn from all of us.
