Writing for Salon, Stephanie Zacharek comments on the film Tropic Thunder (2008): "The actors playing actors in ‘Tropic Thunder’...see themselves as craftsmen striving for authenticity in an artificial world...." A parody of  the performance, anxious authenticity and race in Hollywood blockbusters, Tropic Thunder speaks to the contradictory desire to create an honest performance that also has mass appeal.
