Beyond Boundaries: Exploring the World through Language Learning

OUR TEAM

SONDRA PHIFER

Hi! I’m the designer and curator of the exhibit. I am the faculty assistant for multiple language departments: French, German, and Comparative Literature & Translation Studies. I received my B.A. from Marymount Manhattan College in art history and M.A. from CUNY-Brooklyn College in art history. I am an adjunct instructor of art history at NYU Tandon School of Engineering and I am also pursuing a second graduate degree from NYU Steinhardt in Digital Media Design for Learning. As a budding educational technologist, I enjoy collaborating with faculty by designing personalized, digital projects (websites, film, touchscreen kiosks; A/R and V/R, forthcoming) to showcase their individual scholarship and instructional resources. JESSICA LIU

Hi guys! My name is Jessica and I'm a sophomore majoring in Comparative Literature. I'm originally from Singapore though my parents are from Shanghai. Like most other Singaporeans I grew up speaking a mix of English, Mandarin, and various Chinese dialects, and the nuances that lie within accents, code switching, et cetera back home was what sparked my interest in languages and in linguistic diversity. In my free time I enjoy eating my way around NYC, going to Korean spas, and doing nothing. I am one of the Digital Technologists for the exhibit.

NOELLE PENAS

Noelle Penas is currently a sophomore studying Visual Arts with a concentration in Human Rights. She is passionate about light art and documentary photography, and her interests include National Geographic and cybernetics. She is an Exhibit Assistant.
