Beyond Boundaries: Exploring the World through Language Learning

1940s-1950s

 

The 1940s and 1950s were characterized by the formation of cultural clubs such as the Portuguese Club, Circulo Italiano, and the Chinese Club, all of which reflected the increasing diversity of the Barnard student population. It was also at this time that classical music education and study abroad programs took off at Barnard, thus further exposing students to foreign languages.
