I am the girl who used to be embarrassed by the piece of cloth wrapped around her head. I’m who use to be a silent statue and held all of her feelings inside. I am the girl who use to be afraid of being judged. I am from Bangladesh from a little island called Sandwip. My mother and father went to college on the island; they are Abdul BataanCollege graduates. My dad use to work on the mainland as an accountant in a veterans hospital. My mother was offered a teaching position in a primary school on the island but was unfortunately forced to give it up once she got married so that she could take care the household. My family lived a simple life, one in which money was tight and every day was a silent battle. However, life for my family changed one day when my mother won an application lottery. She was very lucky and thanks to her, we had had the opportunity to move to America. I was when I came to America. For the last seventeen years, I have spent growing up in a heavily populated community of Bengali people while adapting to an American society.
Living in New York City has taught me to be adventurous and explore my sources. I enjoy exploring different food places. All kinds of like Korean, Japanese, Thai, Bengali, Indian , Turkish foods all fits my liking. Even-though I love to eat,I also love to bake goods. During my free time I mostly dance my way to the kitchen and throw in some salt, sugar, butter, flour, oil and much more which creates my batter into a three dimensional dessert. I also a passion for writing creative stories and thoughts about my life. Along with writing I enjoy reading when I'm underground in a subway with no service. I put my headphones in and drown myself in the book. Throughout my life, I have looked towards my family and friends for inspiration, morals, and trust. My sister Razia is one of the people in my life that I trust most. She always gives me good advice, helps me with schoolwork, listens to my rants, and believes in me like no one else. She inspires me and motivates me to be a hard worker. She is one of my family members, along with my parents, who is very proud of me coming to the Grove School of Engineering as a Seek student.
Ultimately, as I embark on my journey at CCNY, I realize that I am no longer that sensitive girl. I am no longer afraid of being judged or embarrassed. I am no longer a silent statue, but rather a fierce student ready to claim her place at Grove. As a Seek student, I want to have an informative educational experience, one filled with memories that I hope will last forever. As a CCNY graduate in about 4-5 years I want to be remembered as a conveyor of language - a communicator - a computer science engineer that wants to understand and make sense of the changing world around her no matter how many compile errors she makes when running a code.
