Where I Come From

Where I come from you can hear both gunshots and wind chimes

In the same city
The apricot sundowns highlight the beautiful view of monuments
and neighborhoods alike
Onions, lemon, and garlic fill the breeze of downtown,
in street and food trucks.
Jasmine fills the air of china town
Fresh strawberries in the farmers market
The concrete is like sandpaper if you fall
Yet the nurses at the school so soft and kind like velvet
Blessed to grow up here
This city amazing yet complex
Rich and poor so close and so far from the same thing
Twisted steel buildings where the work is done
In hopes of success
Sound of humming birds as products are made
Same as paper shredders when corporate buildings grow
It’s an interesting mix
Where I come from
Trash in the streets like lint
Yet always people to clean it up
Baby powder and mothballs in the corner stores
That sustain the joy of ice cream and chocolate syrup on a Friday night
The beauty of this city is tight curls, raspberry skies, and bonsai trees all found in the
same area
